How to play Tapa 1-N

Tapa 1-n Puzzle Rules:

  • Empty squares can be filled in black to form black areas, and all black squares must be connected as a whole.

  • There cannot be any 2x2 areas that are completely filled in black in the grid.

  • Clue squares marked with numbers cannot be filled in black. The numbers represent the number of consecutive black squares in the eight surrounding squares.

  • If there are multiple numbers in a clue square, the parts formed by these black squares must be separated by at least one white square.

  • A question mark (?) can be used instead of a number, representing any non-zero positive integer.

  • Additional rule: Each row and column must contain a different number of black squares.

Similar to regular Tapa puzzles, all black cells must be connected as one single unit, and there should be no 2x2 area in the grid that can be completely filled in black.

The difference lies in that Tapa 1-n puzzles require the number of black cells in each row and column to be different.
